Significance of Mahashivratri (Mahashivratri ka Mahatva)
Mahashivratri is celebrated on the 13th or 14th day of dark half (Krishna Paksha) of Phalgun maas. In year 2013 it will be celebrated on 10th March. Most of the ceremonies take place during night. It is observed in honour of Lord Shiva. It is believed that he was married to Parvati on this day. Though there are other beliefs as well about why Shivratri is celebrated.
