Gayatri mantra comes from Rig Veda and is considered to be supreme amongst all the mantras. Most of us think that there is only one gayatri mantra but that is not true there are gayatri mantras devoted to other gods like Ganesha, Hanuman etc. The most common one which many people know and recite is devoted to Lord Sun.
